Object: Study of Different Optical Fiber tools and equipments.

Apparatus and tools:

1. Fiber Optic Cable Stripper: Stripping the protective coatings off fiber optic cables is one of the most delicate tasks in the fiber optic installation process. The cable stripper is designed to remove the outer jacket without damaging the fiber itself.

2. Cleaver: The cleaver is used to precisely cut or cleave fiber optic cables. This is an essential Fiber Optic Equipment for ensuring that the fiber’s end face is flat and smooth before splicing or terminating.

3. Fusion Splicer: A fusion splicer is used to fuse two fiber optic cables together using heat, creating a seamless, permanent bond between the fibers. This is one of the most critical tools in fiber optic installation.

4. Optical Power Meter and Light Source: The optical power meter measures the signal strength of the fiber optic link, while the light source generates a stable light signal to test the fiber’s performance.

5. OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer): An OTDR is used for testing the integrity of fiber optic cables by sending light pulses down the fiber and analyzing the reflected signals to locate faults, breaks, or splices.

6. Fiber Optic Identifiers: Fiber optic identifiers are used to locate and trace fibers within a bundle without disrupting the signal. These devices can detect the presence of light in a fiber and indicate which fiber is active.

7. Fiber Optic Inspection Microscope: After splicing or terminating fibers, technicians use a fiber optic inspection microscope to check the end faces for cleanliness and quality.

8. Fiber Optic Connector Cleaner: A connector cleaner is used to clean the fiber optic connectors and ensure that no dust, dirt, or oils are present that could degrade the signal.

9. Cable Pulling Tools : Cable pulling tools, such as pulling grips and tension meters, are used to install fiber optic cables through conduits or other structures.

10. Visual Fault Locator: A Visual Fault Locator (VFL) is a compact, pen-shaped device used by fiber optics technicians to locate and identify faults or breaks in fiber optic cables.

11. Buffer Tube Slitter: A Buffer Tube Slitter is an essential tool used for accessing and working with individual optical fibers within protective buffer tubes.

12. Diagonal Cutter: A diagonal cutting plier is a specialized cutting tool designed for precisely cutting various types of cables, including fiber optic cables.

13. Jacket Remover: A Jacket Remover is a specialized tool used to strip the protective outer jacket from a cable.

Result: We have seen and studied various types of tools and equipments used in optical fiber lab.
